5 Tips for Self Care as the Weather Gets Warmer

With the weather getting warmer, and summer creeping just around the corner, it’s important to take into consideration how to care for yourself as the warmer weather approaches. It’s easy to forget our normal routines in the lazy days of summer, but we have to remember that self-care should never take a vacation! 

Self-care is a great way to put yourself first and ensure you are nourishing your body on the inside and the outside. Continue reading to get some of my favorite ways to incorporate self-care into my summer routine!

  1. Wear Sunscreen

Many people forget to wear sunscreen daily when it is one of the best things you can do for your skin. Every day, even in the winter, we should be wearing some form of SPF on our faces. In the summer months, when the sun is especially powerful, it’s important to make sure to put on sunscreen even if you don’t plan on spending most of your day in the sun. Sunscreen application is important for anti-aging and preventing wrinkles, which your skin will thank you for in the future! Sunscreen is an important part of any self-care routine because it has both short and long-term benefits – so don’t forget to lather up this summer! 

  1. Get Outside

The summer months mean more daylight and time to get outside and appreciate the nice weather. After a long, cold winter of being cooped up inside, find ways to take advantage of the warmer months and move outside! If you work from home, try setting up your workspace outside for some fresh air and sunlight as you take a phone call. Another great way I like to get fresh air is by taking my workouts outside, especially during the summer months when it’s warmer and it’s brighter longer. So, make sure to get outside more this summer whether it’s to enjoy a workout or to just spend some free time relaxing in the sun. 

3. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Drinking water every day is my favorite form of self-care! It has so many benefits for your body and skin, and of course, we can’t forget how refreshing a nice cup of water can be on a hot summer day. You can make drinking water fun by getting a cute new water bottle or adding fresh fruit for some flavor. Drinking lots of water each day is one of the easiest ways you can take care of your body. Trust me, you will feel better when you are properly hydrated. 

4. Eat What’s In Season

More fresh foods are in season during the summer months, which makes it a great time to incorporate them into your summer recipes. Two of my favorites are a summer peach salad and cucumber tomato salad. It’s such an easy and delicious way to get fresh fruits and veggies into your diet. You can even make an activity out of it and find a farm to pick the fruits and vegetables yourself or visit a farmers market to pick out fresh produce for your next barbecue. 

5. Disconnect From Technology

The summer season is a time to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and dive into some of your favorite hobbies. One of the best ways to relax is to disconnect from phones and social media and take that time to reflect on your personal wellness. Taking time away from technology allows for more time spent outdoors with friends and family, or even alone. Recharging your mental health by stepping away from a screen is so important and during the summer you can use that time to do so many other fun things in place of scrolling on your phone to improve your wellness and practice self-care! 

While self-care can seem simple and easy to do – many people forget to incorporate it into their lives. Taking care of yourself mentally and physically is so important to a well-balanced life and these tips are here to help guide you in the right direction.
