Swimsuit season is here and you want to look and feel your best! But, summertime also means many tasty eats that can lead to bloating. So, how do you curb bloating so that you still look and feel confident in your swimsuit?
Here are five of my favorite tips to help reduce bloating so you can enjoy yourself poolside and be confident in your body all summer long!
1. Avoid Foods That Give You Gas
Bloating is when your belly feels swollen, or “stuffed”, after eating. In short, bloating is an excessive amount of solids, liquids, or gas in your digestive system. Consuming a lot of high fiber foods can result in bloating and unwanted gas. Beans, legumes, and lentils are food groups that can lead to this. Keep in mind that fiber is good for you, but avoid consuming beyond the daily recommended intake.
2. Portion Control is Key
If after eating you are experiencing discomfort, it is likely that you are merely consuming too much at once. Break up your meals throughout the day to give your body time to digest.
3. Swap Soda for Water
Carbonation is not your friend when it comes to bloating! Fizzy sodas increase the amount of gas in the digestive system. Drinking water is all around the better option and bloating is just another reason to avoid pop.
4. Keep Yourself Moving
Go for a walk in the park or take your dog around the neighborhood. Physical activity stimulates regular bowel movement, which results in the release of gas and waste.
5. Reduce Constipation
Constipation and bloating go hand in hand. Make sure that you incorporate foods like prunes, pears, and broccoli into your diet to combat constipation.
Try these tips out for yourself and see what works! Keep a nutrition diary and log what you’re eating throughout the day. This will help you decipher what foods may lead to bloating and will help you set yourself up for success as you continue to pursue a healthy lifestyle.
