5 Tips to Avoid the Winter Workout Slump

Mar 16, 2022

While winter does mean the holidays are approaching, it also means the weather is getting colder and the days are getting shorter. The winter months can make it easy for us to want to lay in bed all day with a warm cup of hot chocolate and do nothing. But, the winter can have a big impact on our physical and mental health and it’s important to know how to stay active and keep up with your workout routine to avoid a winter workout slump! Keep reading for my top five tips to help you stay on top of your workout goals this winter.

  1. Set Goals and Establish a Routine

The first step in preparing for the winter is to set some goals for yourself. Some examples could be setting a goal for how many days of the week you want to workout, how many pounds you want to lose, or how much water you want to drink each day. Once you’ve set your goals, it’s important to establish a workout routine and stick to it! Planning your routine week by week can be a good way to ensure that you are working towards your goals by finding time for your workouts in your busy schedule. Making clear goals for yourself and then establishing a workout routine will help you resist the urge to stay in bed and keep you motivated to work out during the winter months.

  1. Try Something New

Winter is the perfect time to change up your workout routine! Choosing some new and unique ways to work out can give you something to look forward to and make your winter workouts more exciting. You can try some new and different workout routines right from the comfort of your home or try stepping outside of your comfort zone and join a new gym or sign up for workout classes. Winter is also a great time to take advantage of winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, or scenic hikes. Don’t be afraid to try something you’ve never done before! You might even discover some new passions along the way. Hopefully by the end of the season you’ll be able to cross some things off your workout bucket list.

  1. Find a Workout Partner

Another good way to stay on top of your fitness goals this winter is by finding a good partner to work out with. A workout partner can be great for holding you accountable and providing some outside motivation to stay active. They can also make your workouts more fun and entertaining! Find someone who enjoys the same workouts as you and plan a few days a week to workout together. Having a partner will be a huge help in reaching your winter fitness goals!

  1. Embrace the Colder Weather

While some people love the chilly weather that comes with the winter, others dread the frigid temperatures. No matter what side you’re on, it’s a good idea to still spend some time outdoors during this winter season. Just because the temperatures have dropped doesn’t mean you have to stop going to your favorite park to workout! Buy some warm winter workout clothes and layer up to keep yourself comfortable while you’re outside and enjoy those sunny, chilly days.

  1. Take Care of Your Body

It’s crucial to your progress that you are maintaining your wellness this winter by taking care of your mind and body. There are several ways to help your body out while staying active this winter. One of the best things you can do is warm up your muscles properly before you work out. While you should always warm up before a workout, it’s even more important in the winter time as the cold weather can tighten your muscles. Another important part of taking care of your body during the winter is sticking to your nutrition goals. It’s important to fuel your body with the right kind of foods. I offer a large variety of recipes you can try to help you stay healthy this winter! Other things you can do to better take care of your body for the winter can be staying hydrated, getting enough sleep, and taking some rest days when needed! Listening to your body and giving it the attention it needs will be crucial in determining the success of your winter workout routine.
While your motivation is likely to fluctuate over the winter, these five tips should lead you to a long winter of successful workouts. The winter months can be a huge turning point in your fitness goals with the right routine.
