3 Tips to Help You Stay on Track with Your New Year’s Resolutions

Mar 16, 2022

The end of the year is always a time for celebrating, reflecting, and thinking through our goals and vision for the upcoming year. Setting resolutions is a great way to start fresh in the new year and think through how you want to grow personally, physically, and relationally. It can be hard to stick to your resolutions all year long. I know I find that I can lose motivation after January or February rolls around and it gets harder to stay disciplined, but fear not! I’m sharing my tried and true tips to help you stay on track with your goals.

Continue reading to get my top three tips for sticking to your new year resolutions for the upcoming year so you can reach your goals!

  1. Set Reasonable & Attainable Goals

A problem that I often see with new year resolutions is that they tend to be set with unrealistic expectations. It is important to set a goal for yourself that makes sense within the context of your lifestyle and schedule, and is also attainable. For example, expecting to eat healthier for each meal right away can be unrealistic, but choosing to replace a heavy breakfast with a healthier option, is a small step in the right direction. As the year goes on, it will be much easier to add to that initial momentum and replace your lunch and dinner options with healthier choices. Setting small milestones will make reaching your goals much more realistic to obtain.

  1. Find Someone to Hold You Accountable

Whether it’s a sibling, workout partner, or a nutrition coach, finding someone who will hold you accountable and make sure you stay on track with your goals will be a gamechanger to your success this upcoming year. Having someone with similar goals will not only help you achieve your own goals but can also help you stay motivated. For example, I find that it is much easier to skip out on a workout when I don’t have someone to encourage me as a workout buddy or coach – find yourself a workout buddy! While you brainstorm what goals you want to strive for this year, also think about who would hold you accountable to reaching those goals and invite them on your journey!

  1. Keep Note of Your Progress

An important method to ensuring that you meet your goals by the end of 2022, is to constantly track your progress. Tracking your progress is a great way to help you visualize the steps you have made towards reaching your goals, while also showing what needs to be done moving forward. Keeping note of your progress doesn’t have to be the traditional pen and notepad, but can also be done with apps and calendars depending on your preference and accessibility. Being able to see your progress will also serve as motivation to make sure you reach your goals by this time next year. It is also important to keep in mind that progress doesn’t always come in a straight line – but that doesn’t mean you should give up.
Although reaching your goals this New Year may seem easier said than done, these three tips should guide you in the right direction to achieving those goals.
